Dear Editor,
With reference to the appointment of a new Gecom Chairman, Article 161 (2) of the Constitution states “…or any other fit and proper person…”
Can President David Granger and his brilliant AG Basil Williams explain what that means, especially in respect to the appointments of Rudy Collins, Edward Hopkinson, Joseph Singh and Dr Steve Surujbally, all as Chairman of Gecom?
Also, can the brilliant AG and Gecom’s Legal Officer explain how the former Chairman Dr Steve Surujbally signed an order on December 29, 2016, for a new registration period when he had already resigned, and a list of candidates for his replacement had already been submitted to President Granger?
Further, how could there have been a legal meeting of the commission with a Chairman who has resigned, and how will the commission be able to monitor this new registration without a chairman?
Yours faithfully,
Chandra Shekar Azad
