The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Colin Alleyne, the man accused of killing elderly Montrose caretaker Danrasie Ganesh, has been adjourned until next month, due to the final police witness being on 200 days’ leave.
At yesterday’s hearing, Police Prosecutor David Goodridge told the court the final witness for the prosecution’s case was not in court because they had been unable to contact him since he is on leave.
Goodridge explained to the court that the final witness, Detective Sergeant Rodwell Sarrabo is currently on some 200 days’ leave, and would not be at work for a very long time. Sarrabo is said to be the witness who will close the prosecution’s case and end the PI, if the accused does not produce any witnesses to testify on his behalf.
Presiding Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul told the prosecutor that Sarrabo will have to be summoned to court for the next date which was set for February 10.
It is alleged that Alleyne, 23, of 77 Cemetery Road, Timehri, murdered Ganesh on August 1, 2015 at Montrose, East Coast Demerara.
Ganesh’s body was found in a pool of blood, in the kitchen of the bottom flat of the two-storey Montrose house, where she had been the caretaker for some time.
An autopsy revealed that she had died as a result of strangulation and brain haemorrhaging, reportedly as a result of the severe beating she had received at the hands of her killer. The attack was caught on the CCTV security cameras in the house.
