According to the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s Chief Roads and Bridges Officer, Ron Rahaman, works on the Kitty seawall road sinkhole should begin before the end of the month.
A Government Information Agency (GINA) press release stated that Rahaman said that the contractors for the works have already been shortlisted and by January 17, the bids will be opened by the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB). After the bids are opened they will then proceed to cabinet for its no-objection.
If all goes to plan, the Ministry has set a date of January 24, for the commencement of the works that will see not only the sinkhole and the other mini holes that were formed fixed, but also the pipes.
According to the statement, Rahaman explained that three pipes that are feeding the Kitty pump station failed and the one on the seawall had a “worst impact causing the sinkhole.”
While Stabroek News reported yesterday that the work on the sinkhole was being done through a collaborative effort between the Mayor and City Council and the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Rahaman related that he was unaware of the collaboration and that the works will be completed using the funds that were catered for in the 2017 budget.
