Dear Editor,
I have read Mr Emerson Campbell’s interview with Mr Aubrey Hutson and it is my belief that he did what any journalist worth his salt should do. Instead of throwing bricks at an administrator, he went to the source and asked questions. Leading up to the elections of the Guyana Olympic Association I had cause to write to the Editor of Kaieteur News questioning the modus operandi of Rawle Welch and Edison Jefford. That letter was carried, but I saw little change. In all fairness they displayed personality journalism and really threw the book at K Juman-Yassin. The almost daily attacks on Juman-Yassin went on for more than a month. In the end, Juman-Yassin won unopposed, despite being tag teamed by ‘Kaieteur Sport’s’ two finest. Please note, that all this time it was only these two gentlemen who seemed to have a ‘beef’ with Juman-Yassin. Now that he won, which clearly cast doubt on their ability to influence, these guys have turned on others.
Please note that President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association Godfrey Munroe was soon after attacked by Mr Jefford because the GTTA seconded Juan-Yassin’s nomination at the GOA elections. Who was next? Aubrey Hutson, because Hutson’s association nominated Juman-Yassin for President at the GOA elections. It is plain to see that this is a game of if you can’t injure the goose then injure the gander. There is no objectivity. Then after all this Mr Campbell does an interview with Mr Hutson and for that he is attacked, called inexperienced and all kinds of names. Are we living in a world where only Kaieteur Sports is right? I find this whole scenario utterly disgusting and a sad day for journalism in Guyana. It has to stop.
Yours faithfully,
Roger Pilgrim
