PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Francisco Maturana, Stuart Charles-Fevrier or Englishman Terry Fenwick could be become the next Trinidad and Tobago men’s senior coach.
Media reports here say the trio have been shortlisted for the vacant position, with the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association board expected to meet shortly to decide on a final candidate.
An announcement on the new head coach could be made by tomorrow.
Former national star and coach Russell Latapy and former national defender Dennis Lawrence have been excluded from the initial five-man shortlist.
One of the favourites for the vacant post is Colombian Maturana who has led T&T in the past. The 67-year-old brings a strong resume, having previously led Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica and his native Colombia.
Charles-Fevrier, meanwhile, a St Lucian, has won numerous titles in the local Pro League, and is the current coach of top Pro League outfit, W Connection.
Like Maturana, the 57-year-old has coached the T&T national side in the past.
Englishman Fenwick has extensive experience coaching in the Pro League where he has won titles with San Juan Jabloteh.
The 57-year-old is a former Queen’s Park Rangers star who also represented England during the 1980s.
The FA were left searching for a new head coach after Belgian Tom Saintfiet resigned suddenly last week, after just five weeks and four games in charge.
Stephen Hart, who spent three years in the post, was sacked last November after T&T’s dismal start to the CONCACAF final round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
