Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region 9 Carl Parker yesterday publicly denied sexual assault allegations levied against him.
During a press conference held at the office of his lawyer Jerome Khan, Parker vehemently denied the accusations of having sexually assaulted a woman last June.
Khan told reporters that his client has been and continues to be “vilified” in the press and on social media without any due process.
He further contended that though the incident allegedly happened in June, Parker only got wind of the allegations last November when they were brought to his attention by Chairman of the Peoples National Congress Reform and Minister of Legal Affairs Basil Williams S C.
Though he denied the allegation when asked about it by Williams, Parker said he was subjected to a police interview with members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He said he gave his full cooperation after learning that a formal complaint was made to the police.
As a result of the interview, Parker said, statements were taken from him as well as persons who were allegedly in the area where the assault reportedly took place, all of which were handed over to Commander of ‘F’ Division Rabindranath Budhram.
Khan said the file has since been sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice. “He has been lynched in the press and social media…they have already tried him and found guilty… those on social media,” Khan said yesterday.
