Alfred De Younge, the man who is accused of burning the mother of his two children in a suspected acid attack last Thursday, was arrested yesterday after he was involved in a vehicular accident in Linden.
Commander of ‘B’ Division Ian Amsterdam said last evening that De Younge, also known as ‘Natta Boy,’ was in custody in Berbice, where he was taken after receiving medical attention.
Amsterdam noted that the man had to receive treatment after a minor vehicular accident.
He told this publication that the accused was treated and police ranks were present at the hospital, where he was immediately placed under arrest after he was discharged.
De Younge, 34, who is a Linden resident, is accused of throwing an acidic substance on his former partner Shondell Williamson, of Main Street, New Amsterdam.
Williamson is currently a patient at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. She sustained burns to her face, back and hands.
De Younge, reportedly dressed in a woman’s outfit and wig, is alleged to have hidden himself behind the home where Williamson was residing with their two sons, ages six and three years old.
When she arrived home last Thursday evening, he allegedly doused her with the corrosive substance, damaging mainly the upper part of her body.
A relative of Williamson had told Stabroek News, “She was in shock and did not know what to do ’cause she thought he [De Younge] was in Linden.”
The relative said the man had the corrosive substance used to burn Williamson in a bottle and a bowl. “It was a lot—them just tell we acid, we don’t know exactly is what—the one he had in the bowl he dash on she and she started to holler, so he didn’t get enough time to throw the one in the bottle. He just run out, break the bottle on the road and he had a car waiting on him,” the relative added.
Stabroek News was told that the couple had been in an on and off relationship for over eight years. However, about three months ago, Williamson ended the relationship, which was described as violent.
According to the relative, about some three weeks ago, the woman visited Linden so that De Younge could spend some time with his children. However, when it was time for her to leave, he attacked her by grabbing onto her throat. “When she wanted to come home, he didn’t want her to come home and he choke her till she started to froth and became unconscious for a while. After froth start come out of her mouth, he realised what happening and then he tried to revive her,” the woman recounted, while noting that Williamson then “played nice” just so she could get away. “…And when he left, she packed up and came to Berbice,” she added.
De Younge previously operated a car wash in New Amsterdam; however, a while back he relocated his business to Linden. He is expected to be placed before the court sometime next week, after a file is prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
