Guyana-born Canadian Hall of Famer Alex Bunbury, said he is open to the idea of serving as the Golden Jaguars Head-Coach on a temporary basis.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is expected to appoint a replacement for Trinidad and Tobago native Jamaal Shabazz, whose contract with the federation is set to expire.
Prior to the expiration of his contract, the Caledonia AIA boss was appointed as one of the assistant coaches alongside Russell Latapy under then Soca-Warriors tactician Tom Saintfiet.
In a brief comment, the former C.S. Marítimo forward said: “I am open to that because if it means that we are looking to find someone that will take the job, I would do it as a duty for country, definitely. But I wouldn’t want to take the job permanently. That is not my ambition at all.”
Asked about the qualities he would bring to the programme, Bunbury declared:“My experience playing at the international level and I can inspire the players because they will respect the things I have done in the game and things of that nature is very important.”
Quizzed if the GFF has contacted him on this possibility, the current Fruta Conquerors boss revealed “No”. On another note, Bunbury revealed that the Alex Bunbury Sports and Academic Academy (ABSAA) is in the process of acquiring the land lease for a plot of land in the Ituni area.
“We are now at the final stages of working through the funding and the land lease for the project. So hopefully sometime in this year we can start the project,” he disclosed.
After much consultation with government, ABSAA was assigned a plot of land in the Ituni area for the construction of Guyana’s first modern multipurpose sport and educational facility.
“I can’t guarantee everything in life but we have done our part and the government is behind the project. Now we are going through the land lease and the process of getting that all wrapped up. Then we will be going through the funding and how that will be.
“I assume that we will get the title for the land in the next couple of months, I believe so if all goes well,” he added.
