Rose Hall Town Jammers (RHTJ) defeated Fyrish Black Sharks 43-35 when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah Championship commenced Sunday at the Rose Hall court.
Willburn Murray top scored for the winners with 16 points while Michael King and Mikel Lewis scored nine and six points respectively.
For the losers Linden Joseph and Dezi Douglas scored 12 and 10 points respectively.
From start to end, the hosts were in command of the match-up with the first period ending 8-4. Jammers maintained their grip on the contest, outscoring the visitors 17-16 to lead 25-20 at the halftime interval.
Fyrish marginally reduced the deficit in a low-scoring third quarter, netting seven points to Jammers six points to enter the fourth period trailing 31-27. However, the home side secured the result in the final quarter as they out-shot Fyrish 12-8.
Action in the event will resume on Sunday at the Vryman’s Erven Court, with New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors battling Smythfield Rockers. The event which is being contested in an initial group format, features six clubs.
Group-A comprises Rose Hall Jammers, Fyrish Black Sharks and Ithaca Hardliners whilst group-B features NA Warriors< Smithfield Rockers and Hopetown Steelers.
Upon the conclusion of the group round, the top two teams will advance to the semi-final round. Prize monies and trophies will awarded to the respective top three finishers.
