The Guyana Football Federation (GFF)’s search for a national women’s team coach will commence February 1 with the publishing of advertisements locally and internationally.
According to sources close to the federation “The vacancy ad will be coming out on Wednesday [February 1st] and after that we will be entertaining applicants as they did with the Technical Director.
The new appointment structure for coaches is that the Executive Committee will put together a technical panel that will review the applicants, produce a shortlist ranking them in various order before a final decision is made.
“It’s a process where the executive is not dictating, its one they are trying to be transparent and open. It’s going to be posted internationally and locally, all key vacancies administrative and technical will be published internationally and locally,” the sources added.
“The ad will probably run for two weeks and the selection process will last just about four weeks between the respective interviews. In six weeks’ time from the date of the publishing of the vacancy ad, they [GFF] should announce who it will be. A similar process will be conducted for the Senior Men’s Coach,” the sources added.
The contract of the previous Women’s Coach Mark Rodrigues was not renewed by the federation, creating the vacancy that exists. Rodrigues has been at the helm of the programme for several years.
Under his tutelage, the women’s team became the first national team to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Guyana defeated Cuba 3-1 on July 3rd 2010 at the National Stadium in Providence to qualify for the 2010 Continental Championship in Cancun, Mexico staged during the period of October 28th-November 8th.
The Lady Jaguars most recent international engagement occurred on February 11th in CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying tournament staged in the United States of America.
Placed in group-B, Guyana failed to qualify out of the group stage, ending with a record of one win and two losses.
In their opening match on the 11th, the Jaguars lost 0-5 to Canada before rebounding three days later with a 2-1 win over Guatemala.
However, they were eventually eliminated from the event on the 16th owing to a 1-5 defeat to arch-rivals Trinidad and Tobago.
