Guyana Peace Council disappointed by outcome of Middle East conference

Dear Editor,

The Guyana Peace Council (GPC) has taken note of the disappointing outcome of the International Conference on the Middle East recently hosted by the French government in Paris, France.

The conference was attended by representatives of more than sixty countries with its main agenda being the search for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestine conflict and ending the ongoing violence between the two nations.

The GPC supports the efforts of all peace-loving forces and nations to find a lasting and peaceful solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within the meaning of United Nations Resolutions.

At the same time, the Council supports fully, efforts at providing economic incentives, capacity building and institutional strengthening for a future Palestinian State.

The GPC is however disappointed that the Paris conference ended with a bland statement simply reaffirming strong international endorsement for a two-state solution and for an end to Israeli settlement expansion on Palestinian Territory in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2334. The GPC looks toward the convening of a follow-up conference before the end of 2017 and a positive outcome therefrom.

Yours faithfully,

Clement Rohee

President
