A 14-year-old boy is now a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) nursing a stab wound to his abdomen after an altercation with a police officer on Friday afternoon.
David Peters remains in stable condition at the GPH following the stabbing, which reportedly stemmed from taunts he directed at the police officer.
Stabroek News was informed that the rank, who is reportedly attached to the Operations Room at the Brickdam Police Station, was arrested and is in custody at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), at Eve Leary, Georgetown.
According to the boy’s mother, Amanda Marks, her son, who lives with her at Chelsea Park, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, had visited a store in the village, where he met the police officer.
Though it is unclear who started the argument, Stabroek News was told that Peters joked about the policeman’s sister, which reportedly angered him to the point where he allegedly drew a knife and stabbed the boy just below his navel.
Persons who were present at the time of the attack reportedly contacted the Mahaica Police Station and requested assistance to transport the boy to the hospital.
Peters was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital before being subsequently transferred to the GPH for emergency treatment.
