The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) is set to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office bearers for the next two years today at the GCB’s La Bonne Intention Hostel.
The AGM is expected to get underway at 1pm and according to the GCB’s Melinda Bishundyal there will be a press conference afterwards.
However, there will be election of office bearers for the next two years as none of the three area boards that comprise the GCB has had their AGM.
There is an injunction in place barring persons from holding themselves out to be executives of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) and the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has not held its AGM which was scheduled for last December.
An official of the BCB, who spoke to Stabroek Sports under the condition of anonymity, stated that the BCB was awaiting legal advice before proceeding.
The scheduled AGM of the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) did not come off because of the lack of a quorum.
Additionally, there is now a Guyana Cricket Administration Act (GCAA) which states clearly the way forward for resolving the many disputes of the fractured GCB.
It is expected that at today’s press conference the GCB will attempt to answer several burning questions with respect to the administration of the game and the way forward.
The officials will be expected to state the GCB’s position on the Cricket Administration Bill, the state of the three county boards and give their outlook on the sport going forward.
According to the GCAA, there must be no GCB elections before the three county boards hold theirs, which has not happened as only Essequibo made an effort to have theirs.
It is hoped that the guardians of Guyana’s cricket will endeavour to put self-interest aside and put the sport first and foremost.
