Improved fitness and speed are the keys to unlock success ahead of the Hong Kong Sevens following a series of simulation games yesterday at the National Park.
These comments were collectively made by the players and the coaching staff following the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) conducted trials to assess the rugby talent pool and to try out different combinations before selecting the best squad for the prestigious event in April.
In excess of 20 ruggers took part in the simulation games conducted by the technical team under direction of Laurie Adonis and Shane Grant-Stuart.The men’s 7s trials consisted of numerous matches with changes made by the technical team after every game to test players in different positions and in different schemes.
Coaches, players and administrators only had praise for the event but were unanimous on improving fitness and speed in the first rugby trials requested by the President, Peter Green.
The games were not only an eye opener; but it indeed laid the foundation for building rugby to new heights in Guyana. According to Adonis, the national trials also showcased the best local talent available at the moment, and that the trials provided the technical bench with an opportunity to have a good look at the players pre-season form and conditioning.
