Juman-Yassin then pleaded for the associations who have not submitted their proposals to do so as soon as possible.

“We had sent communiques to all the associations giving them a deadline today, January 31 to submit proposals for the plans and what they would wish for their athletes leading up to Tokyo 2020.

I think we have only got from two so far and I am hoping that we get the remainder today.”

Juman Yassin added “Once we get them, all of those applications will be looked at by a subcommittee but the final decisions will be made by the executive of the GOA with regards to how we move forward.”

The GOA head then revealed that former Vice President of the GOA, Noel Adonis will be the Chef de Mission of the local Commonwealth Games contingent.

The Commonwealth Games will be held in the Gold Coast, Australia in April 2018. According to Juman-Yassin, Guyana expects to have about 30 athletes representing the nation. Juman-Yassin then disclosed that the GOA will be relocating its headquarters to its new premises at Liliendaal before the end of the first quarter. “We are targeting the end of March to move.”

The President of the GOA concluded by stating that the Queen’s Baton will be in Guyana from August 7-11.
