Ravens downed Republic Bank Nets in the Open division while Colts and Eagles edged Pacesetters and Plaisance Guardians respectively in the U23 section when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘League of Champions’ continued on Sunday.
Ravens prevailed over Nets 63-62 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue. Dominic Vicente led the winner with 21 points while veteran guard Ryan Stephney recorded 16 points, eight rebounds and six steals.
Chipping in with 10 points and as many rebounds was Carlos Edwards while Lawrence DaCosta scored eight points. For the losers, Mortimer Robertson and Michael Richards were joint top scorers with 11 points each.
They were assisted by Fabian Johnson with 10 points and six rebounds, Hodayah Stewart with nine points and Mortimer Williams who scored eight points.
In the U23 division, Eagles clawed their way past Guardians 87-85. Rising star Travis Belgrave recorded an impressive double-double of 24 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals and four blocks.
Darrol Williams chipped in with 18 points whilst Kwesi Thompson tallied 12 points and eight rebounds.
Lyndon Wilson and Leon Ross added 10 and nine points respectively.
For the East Coast of Demerara unit, Terrence Daniels registered 23 points, eight rebounds and six steals while Andrew Johnson shot his way to 22 points.
Contributing a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds was Akeem Crandon while Anton Fileen and Delroy Critchlow netted 10 and eight points respectively.
Meanwhile, Colts squeaked past Pacesetters 77-73. Jonathan Mangra shot his way to 24 points while effecting five steals in partnership with Timothy Thompson who recorded a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds.
Daniel Ramlagan chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds while Jafar Gibbons added eight points, seven rebounds and five steals.
For Pacesetters, Tafaawa Daly amassed a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds while Marvin Durant scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Assisting with six points each were Jermaine Goddard and Quincy Dos Santos. The event resumes today at the same venue with another doubleheader.
In the first match at 18:30hrs, Eagles will oppose Ravens in the U23 section while Nets will lock horns with Guardians at 20:30hrs in the Open division.
