Smythfield Rockers overcame New Amsterdam (NA) Warriors 52-46 in overtime when the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) sanctioned Anamayah tournament continued on Sunday.
Locked at 42-42 at the end of the fourth quarter at the Vryman’s Erven Court, the visitors secured the hard-fought result by outscoring the hosts 10-4 in overtime.
The Warriors had taken an early lead as they outscored Rockers 14-9 in the first quarter. Rockers battled back in the second period netting 19 points to their foe’s six points to lead 28-20 at halftime.
Rockers maintained their grip on the contest out-hustling Warriors 11-7 to enter the final period ahead at 39-27. However, the hosts pushed the fixture into overtime as they out-shot the visitors 15-3.
Jamal Felix scored 13 points while Neil Wills, Damion Hunte, Steve Deonarine and Gladwin Cort chipped in with 10, nine, eight and six points respectively for Smythfield Rockers. For NA Warriors, Kwesi Mikele recorded a game-high 18 points while Shemar France and Kevon Thom assisted with 13 and eight points respectively.
Action in the event will resume February 5th at the Ithaca Court with home side Ithaca Hardliners battling Fyrish Black Sharks from 16:00hrs.
