Former Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) President Michael Singh said he will not contest the post when the entity stages its Electoral Congress in the latter stages of this month.
Singh, who currently holds the portfolio of Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Vice-President said:“I have no intention of running back. I will help from the federation level.
I think we have to give someone else the opportunity, a young administrator and I will assist from the federation level and not at Georgetown.
“I have talked to a few people, they don’t want the president’s seat but they want to be a part of the executive and complement,” he added.
Singh’s declaration came in the wake of current GABA President Junior Hercules declaring that he will not seek re-election at the congress. The deadline for the election is March 5th.
Hercules, who is also president of the Guardians Basketball Club, was elected to office on January 25th 2015 at Duke Lodge. He assumed the position unopposed after being nominated by Knights and seconded by Colts Basketball Clubs respectively. He replaced then President Singh.
Asked to name a suitable candidate for the post, Singh declared:“I think Adrian Hooper [current Vice President], he was a part of the past two executives and he leads from the front with regards to managing and he knows about the logistics. He can make the transition easy to the presidency.”
