After a Cevons Waste Management truck was caught dumping sewage on Wednesday in Linden, the company has blamed the incident on a “rogue driver” and has promised to clean the entire area.
Linden Mayor Carwyn Holland told Stabroek News yesterday that a resident had taken pictures and related to him that the truck was dumping sewage at ‘Millie’s Hideout,’ at the entrance of Linden, which is also heavily polluted with garbage.
Shortly after being notified by the resident, Holland said that he visited the area early yesterday morning and was able to confirm that sewage was indeed being dumped in the area.
“Cevons called immediately after and said that they regret what happened and they have dispatched a team to Linden to assess the situation and to remedy it and they said it has to be the work of a rogue driver and that it’s not their policy to do that,” Holland added, while explaining that it was related to him that in addition to cleaning up the sewage, the company will clean the entire area.
The company usually visits the community once per week to offer its waste disposal services but because Linden has no area for disposal of sewage it usually transports the sewage back to Georgetown to get rid of it.
Holland also related that the company was penalised by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) several months ago after it was discovered it was illegally dumping waste.
