The young woman who has accused soldiers of raping her at a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) base has positively identified her alleged assailants, according to police.
Police have received statements detailing the rape from the 18-year-old (previously reported to be a 15-year-old), who has alleged that three members of the GDF raped her at Camp Stephenson, Timehri.
A senior police source told Stabroek News that the young woman is visibly traumatised. The source added that she has positively identified the alleged perpetrators of the act and a file is being prepared for the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
On Monday, the GDF said it was in receipt of the allegation levelled against three of its ranks and that a Board of Inquiry had been convened to determine the facts of the allegations and “whether the crime was committed.”
A police source told Stabroek News that the girl was allegedly taken to the base in an army vehicle and then escorted to a room where she was assaulted. The source added that a medical examination found that the teen was sexually assaulted.
