A man was shot twice by bandits on Friday afternoon during an attempted robbery, while he and another man were making a deposit at the Citizens Bank night deposit at Thirst Park, Mandela Avenue.
Christopher Marks, 60, a licensed firearm holder, was shot to his right hand and hip and was later taken to a city hospital.
Police told Stabroek News that Marks was the overlooking the deposit being made by an employee of CJ, a wholesale phone card entity, when they were attacked around 5.15 pm.
An eyewitness told Stabroek News that it was customary for the business to make daily deposits between 5 pm and 5.30 pm. The eyewitness explained that Friday afternoon was no different, as the workers from CJ, which is located adjacent to the bank’s Mandela Avenue outlet, went to make the deposit.
He explained that as the worker was making the deposit, a silver Nissan Bluebird pulled up. The windows rolled down and persons in the vehicle opened fire on the employees. Marks returned fire, but was struck twice by bullets.
Police said one of the bandits was also shot, but could not confirm if he sought medical attention.
The men, the eyewitness said, escaped through a cross street.
