The National Track and Field Facility at Leonora will take centre stage tonight when Uitvlugt faces off with New Amsterdam (NA) United and Santos opposes Den Amstel in the second annual Petra Organization/Limacol Football Championship.
The NA United and Uitvlugt affair at 18:30hrs will be a battle of bottom placed sides in group-B. The Berbicians in their opening fixture lost to tourney favourite Western Tigers 1-2.
NA United’s Leonardo Adams and Jamal Butts have struggled to factor much on offence but will be expected to make an impact if they are to stay in contention for a quarterfinal spot.
West Demerara?s Uitvlugt is in an identical position following a 1-2 defeat to Linden?s Eagles FC despite re-acquiring the services of Trayon Bobb and Jamal Harvey. An improved effort is needed from the offensive line led by the duo and featuring the likes of Jamal Petty and Daniel Floyd.
Meanwhile, Den Amstel will enter the feature contest at 20:30hrs against Santos in a buoyant mood following a 2-0 win over Pouderoyen.
The returning Gideon Payne, Kester Jacobs and Delon Lanferman form an impressive strike force alongside Andre Hector and Travis Hilliman elevating the West Demerara unit into the realm of genuine tourney contenders.
For Santos, a drawn 1-1 affair against Ann?s Grove started their progression in the event. The Georgetown unit, however, were exposed by the physical nature of the East Coast of Demerara unit, owing to their youthful composition.
If they are to remain in the hunt for a place in the knockout round, an enhanced display will be required from the quartet of Job Caesar, Keith Caines, Vassel Cantzelaar and Ryan October in both departments.
