Dear Editor,
This nation must be a comedy of political errors. Could anyone imagine that after so much conjecture and projections for parking meters to be rolled out on major city streets that hardly a word was heard from those who are part and parcel of political power? Only now they come out and request that the system be suspended, after millions have been lost to businesses and revenue to government.
One wonders where these people were when there was one voice crying out in the wilderness against all and sundry to stop the implementation of this project and review the entire plan. He stood alone, was penalized by vindictive officials, made to ride a push bike and deprived of his office space, and only now his comrades are jumping on board and calling for the suspension of the entire arrangement.
Is this for real? Is this the way things would be handled in our nation in the future? Are these people sleeping giants who have been sedated and woken up tamed and harmless? Of course there are more questions than answers, but Guyana and the citizens of Georgetown deserve better than what is given to them at the moment by way of representation.
Forces are joined, the meters must go, not just be suspended; they are not affordable in terms of their cost to the parking public.
Yours faithfully,
Ivan John
