Abject defending coupled with second half offensive profligacy, allowed Western Tigers to overcome a 0-2 deficit and defeat Uitvlugt 3-2, when the 2nd Annual Petra Organization/Limacol Football Championship continued on Wednesday.
The West Ruimveldt unit quickly fell behind 2-0 in the opening 20 minutes as, Trayon Bobb and Jamal Harvey scored in the 15th and 19th minute, respectively, at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
However, the comeback started in the 45th+2 minute, with Andrew Murray Jr exploiting the first instance of poor defending through a header into the top left corner, after collecting a flicked on headed pass, following a cross from a left side Devon Millington free-kick.
Upon the resumption of play, Linden Picketts fashioned the equalizer in the 53rd minute as, the defence switched off again, directing his header into the top right corner, after collecting another flicked on headed pass, inside the left of the box.
The Uitvlugt rearguard once again was nowhere to be found as, Picketts almost handed his side the lead eight minutes onward, placing another powerful header from the left side of the area, onto the crossbar.
At the other end, Bobb missed a glorious chance to give Uitvlugt the advantage in the 76th minute, latching onto a loose ball inside the right side of the box, only to direct a tame effort straight at the goalkeeper.
His sibling, Seon Bobb, almost crafted the go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute, volleying wide of the left corner, after collecting a headed pass from brother Trayon inside the centre of the box.
Nonetheless, Western Tigers snatched the dramatic winner in the 90th+4 minute, with Jumane Somerset powering his unchallenged header down the centre of the net, following a right side cross into the six yard box.
Prior to Uitvlugt’s defensive implosion, Trayon Bobb broke the deadlock with a sublime free-kick, curling his effort from the top of the box, into the top right corner, giving the custodian no chance. Harvey then made it 2-0 four minutes later, dribbling his marker before, racing into the right side of the box and placing a right foot shot past the advancing goalkeeper into the lower left corner.
Due to the win, Western Tigers solidify their position atop group-B on nine points. For Uitvlugt, they drop to the third position and remain on three points. Meanwhile, Grove Hi-Tech and Northern Rangers battled to a 1-1 draw.
Denzel Crawford scored in the 45th+2 minute for Grove while Tefon Daly equalized in the 77th minute.
Due to the result, Grove finish their group campaign in the second position on four points while Northern Rangers remain in the cellar on two points. Action continues tonight at the same venue with another doubleheader, at 18:30hrs, Santos engage Pouderoyen, while Riddim Squad takes aim at the Guyana Police Force (GPF) at 20:30hrs.
