Defending champion Chase Academy and St. Rose’s High secured walkovers while Masters Academy downed Bishops’ High when the fifth annual Milo U18 Secondary Schools football championships started yesterday.
While Chase Academy and St. Rose’s gained wins over Freeburg and Houston Secondary without breaking a sweat at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue, newcomer Masters Academy defeated Bishops’ High 3-1.
Falling behind to a fifth minute conversion by Darin Chan, Masters Academy levelled proceedings in the 12th minute compliments of a James Walcott effort.
Walcott made his presence felt once more, recording his second goal of the match as he found the back of the net in the 48th minute. The come-from-behind result was then sealed in the 59th minute with Teon Vankenic etching his name on the scorer’s sheet.
Meanwhile, North Ruimveldt and St. Joseph’s battled to a 1-1 stalemate. Jerren Shepherd gave St. Joseph’s the lead in the 61st minute while Omar Sinclair equalised in the 66th minute.
The tournament will continue today at the same venue with another four matches. At 11:00hrs, former winners Lodge Secondary will engage St. Mary’s while Kingston Secondary will battle East Ruimveldt from 12:30hrs.
The third fixture will witness Tucville matching skills with St. John’s College whilst Morgan Learning Centre will oppose Charlestown from 15:30hrs.
