The police in `B’ Division are working on wrapping up the investigation into the murder of Danian Jagdeo, 36, a phone card distributor, who was shot and killed during a robbery in Adventure, Corentyne on Wednesday.
According to the Commander of B Division, Ian Amsterdam, the Major Crimes Unit has stepped in to help investigators in the division conclude the investigation. He stated that a file is expected to be sent today to the Director of Public Prosecutions, seeking advice on the instituting of charges against suspects in custody.
Tomorrow afternoon at 4 pm, a candlelight vigil will be held on the Corentyne in memory of Jagdeo. The vigil will begin in Adventure, Corentyne. Also as part of tomorrow’s activities, a march will be held from Rose Hall Town to Jagdeo’s home in Williamsburg, Corentyne.
Jagdeo was dropping off phone cards at a shop located on the main road of Adventure, Corentyne, at around 03:30 pm, when a lone gunman entered, shot him two times
and relieved him of his bag, which contained cash and phone cards.
Jagdeo was in the shop when the man, who used a hat to hide his face, entered. Jagdeo became suspicious and asked the shopkeeper if she knew the man. She said no and the man then whipped out a gun and fired a shot. According to reports, a scuffle ensued between Jagdeo and the gunman who shot him twice. The bandit then grabbed Jagdeo’s bag and ran outside, where his accomplice, who wore a full-face helmet, was waiting for him on a stolen motorcycle. The two men rode to Friendship, Corentyne, where they left the motorcycle and they were picked up by a silver-coloured car. The men then drove to Springlands, Corentyne but then turned around and proceeded back to Rose Hall Town.
Amsterdam had said that the suspected murder weapon was found and a car suspected to have been used to transport the two robbers was also impounded.
Police have also confirmed that the motorcycle the perpetrators used to escape was stolen from a resident in Belvidere, Corentyne sometime on February 2. At the time of the robbery the motorcycle licence plate was changed to a fake plate CD 2125.
The Commander had stated that those in custody hail from Rose Hall Town, Canje and other areas on the Corentyne. The accused in custody include the alleged driver of the silver-coloured car, the person who is responsible for making the fake licence plate, the person who would have had the stolen motorcycle in their possession as well as the two persons who reportedly executed the robbery.
The police are also in possession of video footage of Jagdeo dropping off phone cards to one of his regular customers in Springlands, Corentyne. Investigators also noticed in the footage that a silver-coloured car was moving slowly next to Jagdeo’s car, which was parked outside of the store at that time.
