Following the conclusion of its Annual General Meeting and election of office bearers, the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) is set to launch the GCA 2017 cricket season next month.
Chairman of the Competitions Committee, Shawn Massiah who was re-elected to the post at the January 31st AGM, told Stabroek Sports that the GCA was looking at the weekend of the 4th of March to begin the season.
He said initially the GCA had intended to commence the season this month but found that most of the grounds were not fit for play.
He also indicated that it was felt that it would be better to wait until after the Mashramani activities to resume cricket action.
Massiah said that the season will begin with the Carib Beer first-division T20 tournament; the resumption of the Noble House second-division two-day competition and final which will be played between DCC and winners of the other semi-final between Everest Cricket Club and Transport Sports Club; and the semi-finals of the New Building Society second-division limited overs competition.
The association is expected to release competition fixtures on or before February 28, Massiah assured..
