Digicel Guyana is donating much needed supplies, appliances, stationery, school shoes, food hampers and other items to 10 special needs schools and orphanages throughout Guyana in 10 days.
According to a press release from Digicel, this is part of its 10th anniversary celebrations. The release stated that the St John Bosco Orphanage was the first stop in the series of visits. Digicel Head of Marketing Jacqueline James, along with several staff members of staff, delivered breakfast,
school shoes, school packs, stationery, a washing machine and other items that were needed at the orphanage. “We are happy to be here with you… we would like you to know that we are here to support you, young people and we will always be here to lend a helping hand,” the release quoted James as saying to the small gathering.
Director of the orphanage Mother Superior Julie Matthews thanked Digicel and encouraged those present to “keep doing good”.
According to the release, the telecommunications company also visited the Diamond Special Needs School, handing over wheelchairs, backpacks, food items, school supplies and a gas stove; and the New Amsterdam Special Needs School where a new sick-bay and kitchen appliances were donated. They also stopped by the Canaan Children’s home while they were in Berbice.
Digicel has also visited and made donations at the Tuschen Deaf Academy, Gifted Hands Special Needs School, Shaheed Boys Orphanage, Cheshire Home, Linden Resource Unit for the Blind and Prabhu Sharran Orphanage.
Meanwhile, also as part of its anniversary celebrations, Digicel will be gifting ten Facebook fans based on its ‘Name Your Gift’ promotion and ten customers who have been on the network from the inception will receive handset upgrades.
