A Linden teenager was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with robbing a woman of almost $300,000 in jewellery during a gun-point attack and also assaulting a police officer.
The court of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown heard that on February 8, 2017, at Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, Teon February, 17, of G5 Canvas City, Linden, while being armed with a gun, robbed Lynette Richmond of two gold chains, four gold rings and a silver ring, all valued at $293,500.
February, a labourer, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The teen was read a second charge which stated that on February 7, 2017, at Mackenzie Sports Club, Linden, he assaulted Police Constable Treon Thompson, an officer acting in execution of his duties. February also denied this charge.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail, citing the fact that a weapon was used during the commission of the crime along with the gravity and nature of the offences.
Chief Magistrate McLennan remanded the teen to jail until February 21, when the case will be called again at the Linden Magistrate’s Court.
