Kwakwani and Retrieve Raiders won their respective matches when the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) U23 championships continued Sunday at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Hard-court.
Kwakwani upset defending champions Victory Valley Royals 55-25. Shafeek Thomas scored 12 points while Jamal Gilkes and Leonard Primo supported with 10 and seven points each.
For VVR, Yannick Tappin and Daniel Lee scored 10 and six points respectively. In the second match of the night, Raiders pillaged Christianburg Pistons 48-8.
Travis Suttton led the way with 12 points while Coel Winter added nine points and the Williams siblings Omisi and Otis scored six points each.
On Saturday in the opening night, Half Mile Bulls extinguished Block 22 Flames 85-53. Terron Welch shot his way to 31 points while Tahquille Johnson, Keifer Tappin, Travin Dryden and Rolston Richmond scored 13, 11, 11 and eight points each.
For Block 22 Flames, Rondell Fraser recorded 15 points while the duo of Selwyn Henry and Jonathan Copeland assisted with 13 and 11 points correspondingly.
In the other fixture, Amelia’s Ward Jets defeated Bankers Trust Falcons 57-46. Akini Wilson led be way with 24 points while Vibert Benjamin and Travis Archer netted 17 and eight point apiece.
For Bankers Trust Falcons, Akeel Primo scored 15 points while Kobe Roberts and Stephen Duncan netted nine points each.
The event continues at the same venue on Friday night with doubleheader featuring Bulls against Pistons and Jets against Royals.
