Forensic exhibits that are still at the Eureka Laboratory, caused a further delay of the Preliminary Inquiry into the murder charge against Colin Alleyne, the man accused of killing elderly Montrose caretaker Danrasie Ganesh.
At Friday’s hearing, the final witness in the matter, Detective Sergeant Rodwell Sarabo testified and tendered into evidence statements from the murder accused,
Alleyne. Sarabo had come out of some 200 days leave to continue his testimony in the PI after it was noted at the last hearing that he was the last witness to conclude the preliminary hearing. However, Police Prosecutor David Goodridge told the court that the witness’s testimony would not be completed since there were some exhibits that Sarabo needed to tender which were still at the lab. Sarabo also told the court that he had made checks for the exhibits at the Forensics Lab at the Criminal Investigation Department but was told that they were still at the Eureka Lab.
Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul adjourned the case until March 2 for report on the exhibits.
It is alleged that Alleyne, 23, of 77 Cemetery Road, Timehri, murdered Ganesh on August 1, 2015 at Montrose, East Coast Demerara.
Ganesh’s body was found in a pool of blood in the kitchen of the bottom flat of the two-storey Montrose house, where she had been caretaker for some time. An autopsy revealed that she died as a result of strangulation and brain haemorrhaging reportedly as a result of the severe beating she received at the hands of her killer. The attack was caught on CCTV cameras in the house.
