A former murder accused was yesterday charged with attempting to stab another man to death.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan read an attempted murder charge to Shawn Filliciene in a Georgetown court. It was alleged that on February 11, 2017, at a Potaro River backdam, with intent to commit murder, Filliciene wounded Manuel DeSantos.
The 43-year-old man was not required to enter a plea to the charge.
According to police prosecutor Deniro Jones, DeSantos was stabbed in the neck several times and remains in a critical condition in the hospital. The prosecutor also noted that the defendant was previously charged with murder but he was unable to provide the court with the outcome of that matter.
It was on these grounds that the prosecutor objected to bail. Filliciene was subsequently remanded to prison and is expected to make his next court appearance at the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court on April 18.
