Town Clerk, Royston King, and the Chief Engineer, Colvern Venture, met with Peter Abdool, Roy Beepat of Giftland Mall and Dale Beresford on Friday, February 10 and reached an agreement on the use of the access road to the mall.
According to a press release from Giftland Mall, Abdool explained that due to the fact that the Road was not gazetted, the Mall was responsible for the insurance, street marking, paving, parapets, street lighting and maintenance of the access roadways, and that presently the City would continue to maintain monitoring and controlling traffic to ensure that a free flow of traffic is maintained as was being done before the intervention by the City.
On February 3rd, a team from the Mayor and City Council removed several signs from the access road and compound of the Giftland Mall.
The release stated that the action by the Town Clerk in removing the signs was hasty and an apology was extended to Beepat.
The Chief Engineer promised to return the signs. Beepat stated that it is always his intention to work peacefully with the City and regretted that King and Venture had not been able to resolve this issue prior to the actions last week and hoped that in the future, a closer working relationship would develop for any other issues.
