Dear Editor,
Supporting good health and ensuring quality health care extends far beyond hospital and doctor care. The Regional Democratic Council Region No 5 Budget 2017 will provide a new health facility for residents of Cotton Tree Village, West Coast Berbice. The present structure is in a deplorable condition. The building is located on private land, which is preventing expansion for new health services to the community. The Regional Administration has identified a plot of state land which will be used to house the new health facility for the Cotton Tree health catchment area. The health centre is expected to provide a full range of health-related services. This means in addition to providing comprehensive primary health care services they will also offer specialty care, as well as ‘supportive services’ that can include nutrition and suicide education, care coordination and case management, and outreach activities to help find eligible patients. This also means the care delivered is culturally appropriate and in languages that many in these communities speak.
Yours faithfully,
Govind Singh
Deputy Regional Executive Officer
