The disgruntled clubs who are at odds with the executive of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) will have a chance to iron out the wrinkles during a General Council Meeting today at Olympic House.
According to secretary of the GCF, Maria Leung, today’s “big meeting” which starts at 17:00hrs is expected to attract representatives of the 11 local clubs to discuss federation issues and other topics on the agenda.
Nine of the 11 clubs voted to put the brakes on the Horace Burrowes-led GCF in favor of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) last November.
Today’s meeting will be the first for the clubs and the GCF since President of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Brian Cookson emphasized in a letter that the GCF is the only recognized body for the sport in Guyana.
Leung told Stabroek Sport yesterday that other topics on the agenda include:
1) Matters of concern to the members
2) Financial updates/ funding
3) Racing programme/ Club programmes
4) Upgrading of Constitution
5) Discussing the National and Caribbean Championships
6) The UCI and Pan American Cycling Confederation (COPACI) Congress
7) Any other Federation Issues
The President or Secretary of each club is expected to be in attendance.
