I would just like to add this observation as a follow-up to my letter on parking meters published on February 16.
In the final analysis, all the parties, including the very vocal protesters, are looking through, if not down, a narrow periscope. The fundamental issue is really one of creative town planning. There is no indication as yet of anyone envisioning the future requirements, if only for the accommodation of the inevitable increase of traffic in the city and environs; and therefore for the demand for parking. Parking meters, at whatever rates, are not the answer.
Obviously it is space (including storeyed space) that needs to be provided. So the relevant competencies need to be engaged as a matter of urgency to contain a situation from worsening.
