Following the conclusion of the group stage in the Petra Organization/ Limacol Football Championship, the respective finishers were presented with their financial incentives yesterday at a simple presentation ceremony at the Brandsville Hotel, Campbellville.
Winners of the respective groups, Winners Connection, Western Tigers, Den Amstel and Mahaica Determinators each received $100,000 while second place teams defending champ Milerock, Eagles, Santos and Guyana Police Force collected $50,000 apiece.
The third place teams, Grove Hi-Tech, Uitvlugt, Ann’s Grove and Camptown each received $40,000 while the cellar occupants Northern Rangers, New Amsterdam United, Pouderoyen and Riddim Squad pocketed $20,000 respectively.
Troy Mendonca, Co-Director of the Petra Organization during brief remarks praised the teams for the support received in the event, noting “I would like to assure all the sponsors who’re on board that the support you’ve given is money well spent and we in the Petra Organization are optimistic that the tournament is here to stay”.
He further added “We are generally satisfied with the support from the clubs and fans, notwithstanding that the tournament in the initial stage was being run concurrently with another tournament, but the clubs and their representatives ensured that our event was not affected”.
Action in the event resumes on Sunday with the quarterfinal round at two venues. At the Victoria ground, Guyana Police Force will oppose Den Amstel while Mahaica Determinators will engage Santos. Over the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) in Linden, Milerock will tackle Western Tigers while Winners Connection will oppose Eagles.
