Secretary General of the Guyana National Commission to UNESCO Vivienne Inge Paula Nathoo passed away on Wednesday, following a brief stay at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, Nathoo died on Wednesday after a brief period as an in-patient.
Nathoo, formerly of Port Mourant, Corentyne, had been installed as Secretary General of the Guyana National Commission to UNESCO in 2008 and held the post up until her death on Wednesday.
Reflecting on her life, the ministry in its statement alluded to Nathoo’s entry into the world of work with her employment at the Guyana National Cooperative Bank (GNCB), Port Mourant Branch.
An alumnus of the Bishops’ High School, Nathoo subsequently proceeded on a scholarship at the People`s Friendship University, Moscow where she pursed a Master of Law degree, specialising in International Law.
Upon her return home, in 1985, she resumed at the GNCB and subsequently went on to serve at the National Bank of Industry and Commerce.
Additional areas of success for Nathoo included her stints at the Caricom Rice Mill, the Guyana Manufacturers and Services Association and the National Parks Commission.
“The Minister of Education and the Ministry of Education, at large, regret the passing of one of its most faithful servants and extends its condolences to her family, relatives and friends,” the statement concluded.
Nathoo leaves to mourn her two children, Judith and Roddy, her mother, two sisters and a brother in addition to numerous relatives and friends.
