Akeaze Thompson captured career-best bowling figures against Essequibo to lead Demerara to a 10-wicket win at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday in a match of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female Inter-County competition.
The twenty-four year old, Thompson took 6-8 from 4.1 overs as Essequibo crashed to 20 all-out in 8.1 overs.
Thompson, the Demerara skipper, topped her previous best bowling performance of 5-7 against the same opponents which she took two years ago. Hema Singh took 2-12.
Demerara, in reply, raced to 21-0 in a mere 3.4 overs with former West Indies player June Ogle and Mandy Mangra unbeaten on 11 and seven respectively to set up a finals clash against Berbice today at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda.
In the Essequibo innings, Keesha Tucker was the only player to reach double figures scoring 14 with two boundaries.
Essequibo at one stage were 6-9.
However, the last wicket pair salvaged a bit of pride by adding 14 precious but futile runs.
Seven batters failed to trouble the scorers in a dismal batting effort as the Essequibo girls failed to find an answer to Thompson’s swing and control.
Thompson was adjudged Player of the Match.
