The revelations which emanated from the recent PAC meeting with officials of Region 6 RDC made shocking reading.
The DREO with responsibility for financial matters and other officials were hard pressed to provide plausible and acceptable explanations and answers on the conduct of the financial business of the Region to the PAC. It was mind boggling to understand how cheques could be written in the full amount solely on the awarding of contracts. Who does this?
From all indications there were clear breaches and financial irregularities. This is indeed troubling. This episode raises the troubling question whether persons before being appointed to positions in the regions are subjected to due diligence to gauge their competencies, technical skills and suitability for positions.
It is hoped the relevant authorities have taken note of financial system weaknesses at Region 6 and will take all necessary steps to have same addressed and corrected.
