Buxton pan players triumph: GBTI/Buxton Pride Steel Orchestra emerged as winners in the Large Youth Band category last night at the 2017 Republic Bank of Guyana Annual Steel Pan Competition which was held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall. The Group from the East Coast brought the audience to their feet with loud applause with their rendition of ‘All ah we is one’. They scored 255 which saw them beating favourites, Pan Wave Academy and last year’s winners, North Ruimveldt Secondary School. GBTI/ Buxton Pride Steel Orchestra’s win saw them securing themselves a trip to Barbados in August for Carifesta XIII. Among last night’s winners were Queen’s College in the Small Youth Band category and the National School of Music Steel Orchestra in the Large Bands category.
