As ‘B ‘Division’s investigators continue to investigate the murder of the Tain mother of four, they have been granted an extension to keep the alleged mastermind in custody until Thursday of this week.
This is according to the Commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam, who said, “The file was sent to the DPP and we got to clear up some other points and we got an extension until Thursday. So hopefully by Thursday we can put the pieces together.”
According to the Commander, the woman who turned herself in at the Whim Police Station on Friday afternoon in the presence of her attorney Chandra Sohan “is not saying much. We checking phone records, we checking with the bank because we understand that a withdrawal was made and she is claiming she only give a $100,000 to somebody. We have bits and pieces and we are putting it together.”
Meanwhile, he noted that the police have footage showing the alleged mastermind, Indira Outar, of Tain Settlement, Corentyne, who operated her husband’s sawmill in Edinburgh, East Bank Berbice, meeting with the female accused, who is currently on remand, at a popular hotel in New Amsterdam. This meeting, he confirmed, was before Leilawatie Mohamed was murdered.
On February 7, two men clad with black clothes invaded the home of Mohamed, also known as ‘Aunty Leila’, 45, a domestic worker of Lot 149, Sixth Street, Tain Settlement, Corentyne. The men kicked down the front door of Mohamed’s house to gain entry and demanded cash. However, when she said she did not have any money to give, the gunman placed the gun on her lower chin and shot her at close range, killing her instantly. The woman’s 20-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son were at home at the time.
It was after B Division’s lawmen launched an investigation that it was discovered that Mohamed’s murder was not a robbery gone bad but a planned hit.
On Wednesday last five persons were charged with the murder and remanded to prison.
The accused are Oliver Permaul, 36, barber, of Lot 100 Tain Settlement, his wife Nazima Permaul, 42, who operates a business in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Andre James also known as ‘Andy’, 26, a tattoo artist of Lot 46 ‘A’ George Street, Rose Hall Town, Rohan Johnson also known as ‘Jamakie’, 38, carpenter and Jamaican National of Lot 107 Second Street, Rose Hall Town and his common law wife Shabiki Alert Thompson, 28, of said address.
