The action packed junior welterweight fight brought the patrons to their feet and the judges to conclude that Lewis deserved the award.

Guyana’s boxers, Jason Bakker (super heavyweight), Chris Moore (light weight) and Richard Subrattie (junior flyweight) each defeated their Surinamese counterparts, Steven Lemin, Stephon Van Ommeren and Fitzgerald King respectively.
In the most exciting bout of the card, Amsterdam put on an explosive exhibition of fistic combat with national middleweight champion, Dennis ‘The Menace’ Thomas.
The two gladiators went toe to toe and traded punches like their lives depended on it. However after the final bell, Amsterdam was adjudged the victor by unanimous decision leading him to receive the Alford McDonald trophy.
“That turned out to be a thriller with what I would call the two best middleweights in the Region, an excellent fight, It was really nuff cuff,” said President of the Guyana Boxing Association, Steve Ninvalle.
Quizzed on the success of the event, Ninvalle said “We think it was very successful, the people that turned up there were entertained to some very exciting fights
It is our hope that it becomes an annual affair since the two promoters have confirmed that they will be doing all within their power to make it an annual event.
Ninvalle added “We were able to showcase a lot of young talent and I do hope we can build on this.”
