Police are searching for the prime suspect in the murder of a Lethem farmer, who was beaten to death on Sunday by a gang of men.
The dead man has been identified as Lee Antone, 21, North-Central Rupununi, and Bon Fim, Brazil.
Stabroek News was told that Antone and his brother were heading home after a party around 1.45am when they were attacked by a gang of men.
Police said the brothers were cornered by the men, who were armed with pieces of wood, rocks and other objects.
While his brother managed to escape, Antone was left behind.
Stabroek News was told that when the brother returned to the spot where they were attacked, he found Antone lying motionless and covered in blood with multiple lacerations about his body.
The police were summoned to the scene and the body was taken to the hospital, where Antone was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police Commander Ravindradat Budhram told Stabroek News that the investigation is still active and police have gathered useful information in apprehending the prime suspect.
