Colts clinched the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) ‘League of Champions’ Open title after defeating Ravens 60-50 to take an unbeatable two-game lead in their three-match series Tuesday night at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue.
Shelroy Thomas scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds for the winners while Shane Webster and Stanton Rose registered 13 and 11 points each. Kurt English added six points.
For Ravens, Ryan Stephney battled to a double-double of 17 points, 10 rebounds and five steals while Dominic Vicente was the next best scorer with 10 points.
Darcel Harris netted seven points and Ryan Gullen contributed six points and seven rebounds. Colts, who won the first match 66-55, fell behind at the start of the contest with the first quarter ending 9-12.
However, they levelled the match heading into the halftime interval at 26-26 as they outscored Ravens 17-14.
Colts took control of the contest in the pivotal third quarter netting 17 points while restricting Ravens to nine points to lead 43-35 entering the final period. The match was then sealed in the fourth quarter as Colts outhustled Ravens 17-15.
Meanwhile, Ravens leveled the U23 series at 1-1 after defeating Colts 62-55 in game two. Shamar Huntley recorded a game high 25 points in the win, while Rodill Wilson, Anfernee Jervis and Treson Burnett scored nine, eight and seven points each.
For the loser, Jonathan Mangra led the way with 12 points while Orin Thomas was the next best scorer with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Chipping in with seven points was Orin Campbell while Timothy Thompson added six points and 20 rebounds. Up to press time, the deciding match was ongoing at the same venue.
