Dear Editor,
At a time like this there will be pressure on people with the banning of used tyres. If they can only use new tyres, transportation costs will go up, and people with old cars which work as taxis will not be able to afford them. People will start to steal the new tyres from cars; an old tyre cost $3000 to $4000, and people could afford to replace one when it had gone.
New tyres should be sold on the market at competitive prices, while used ones can still be bought, so that people can choose. Sometimes they might go for new ones if they are not much more expensive than used tyres, but to ban these while the new ones are expensive will be difficult.
If importers of used cars get the Japanese companies to install new tyres on them, this will make the cars more expensive too. Cars coming into the country at present have very good used tyres.
Importers now have to bring in 2009 cars, and they are very expensive. Owing to the smaller number of cars coming into the country, fewer of them are being sold. I do hope the people in authority take this into consideration and see how difficult life is in our country at the moment.
Yours faithfully,
Zakir Ally
