The Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation Inc. (GBBFFI) is in transition mode following the installation of a new executive last Saturday, however new president, Coel Marks already has some positive changes he wants to enact to benefit the athletes and the sport locally.
“Off the top I can identify a few things that we’re looking to do,” said Marks yesterday.
The new GBBFFI boss said that the federation will hit the ground running with the annual Novices championships in April adding that a waiver of participation fees for athletes is on the cards.
“We also want to offer athletes who register early a small stipend to offset preparation expenses, but that’s dependent on the sponsorship response.
“Throughout the show, we want to present slides on the evolution of body building in Guyana highlighting the greats. We will also like to have more crowd participation activities which will definitely provide more entertainment for the patrons.”
The former soldier further disclosed that decentralizing the sport and soliciting participation from fit individuals within the disciplined forces is high on the agenda.
“We want to revitalize support from out of town. There are a lot of athletes competing from Berbice but we also want to see athletes from Linden back in the lineup. In addition, we’ll be soliciting the armed forces to send athletes if they have.”
The Novices championships are scheduled for April 22 at the Theatre Guild.
The national seniors, the flagship local bodybuilding event is tentatively set for late August at a venue to be announced.
