The businesswoman of Tain, Corentyne, who is said to be the mastermind behind the murder of a mother of four, was yesterday remanded to prison when she appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court.
Indira Outar, 43, of Lot 8, Block 4, Tain Settlement, Corentyne, who operates a sawmill in Edinburgh Village, East Bank Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga where she was charged with procuring five persons to commit murder on Leilawatie Mohamed, also known as ‘Aunty Leila’, 45, a domestic worker of Lot 149, Sixth Street, Tain Settlement, Corentyne on February 7.
She was represented by Attorney-at-Law Murseline Bacchus and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. Bacchus made a request for disclosure of statements.
Outar, who has to return to court on March 14, hid her face with a rag, as she exited the court and the police station.
On February 7, two men clad in black clothes invaded Mohamed’s home by kicking down the front door. In an effort to appear to be staging a robbery, the men demanded cash from Mohamed, however, when she said she did not have any money to give, without hesitation the gunman placed the gun on her lower chin and shot her at close range, killing her instantly. The woman’s twenty year old daughter and sixteen year old son were at home at the time of the incident.
However, during B Division lawmen’s investigation it was discovered that Mohamed’s murder was not a robbery but a planned ‘hit’.
On February 15, five persons were charged and remanded over Mohamed’s murder. The accused are Oliver Permaul, 36, a barber, of Lot 100, Tain Settlement; his wife Nazima Permaul, 42, who operates a business in Rose Hall Town, Corentyne; Andre James also known as ‘Andy’, 26, a tattoo artist of Lot 46 ‘A’ George Street, Rose Hall Town; Rohan Johnson also known as ‘Jamakie’, 38, a carpenter and a Jamaican National of Lot 107, Second Street, Rose Hall Town and his common-law wife Shabiki Alert Thompson, 28, of said address.
