Special Lance Corporal in the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Marlon Washing-ton, who was charged with causing death by dangerous driving of Linden teenager, Denilson Rose, in 2015, was yesterday sentenced to five years for the crime, and fined for two other offences.
The matter, which was before Magistrate Clive Nurse, at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, saw the 49 year-old accused being found guilty of the crime, and later sentenced.
On October 24, 2015, on the Washer Pond Road, McKenzie, Linden, the sixteen year old Rose, was struck down by motor car PRR 6503, driven by Washington.
Washington, who was also charged with failing to render assistance and failing to stop after the accident, was fined $25,000 for each charge, or a default of two months’ imprisonment on each charge.
According to previous reports Rose, of Noitgedacht Settlement, Linden, was walking along the Washer Pond Road around 3:30 am, when he was hit by a speeding car, with the number plate PRR 6503.
Rose, was reportedly left to die along the Washer Pond Road, after the driver fled.
The driver was subsequently arrested and a breathalyzer test revealed that he was above the legal alcohol limit.
