The third annual Faye Joseph International Dominoes competition was launched yesterday at Joseph’s residence 1222 Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt with the organisers announcing that the tournament has attracted teams from abroad.
According to Joseph, teams from Barbados, the United States of America, Puerto Rico, Antigua and the Dominican Republic, will throw down the gauntlet to the local teams in a bid to win the lucrative cash prizes at stake.
Joseph made the disclosure at the official launch of the competition where Digicel’s Events and Sponsorship executive, Louanna Abrams, GDA Vice-President, Rodwell Phillips, Secretary Barbara Marshall and official members, Orin Boston, Kevin Boston and Jane Chase were present.
Joseph thanked Digicel for its support and invited the public and private sectors and other interested groups to participate in the tournament which runs April 14-17, at the National Gymnasium.
Abrams, in brief remarks, said that the Company was pleased to be support the tournament adding that their involvement was just another example of their support to another sports discipline.
“We at Digicel try to make every effory to diversify our resources to support every discipline in sport,” Abrams declared.
Phillips, urged the business community to participate in the event, while Marshall gave a brief outline of the tournament which will see the winning team receive one million dollars and the second, third and fourth placed teams receiving $500,000, $300,000 and $200,000 respectively and trophies.
Entrance fee is US$220 or $44,000GYD.
